On October 1st, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo released an official statement addressing the allegations spread by multiple Panamanian news sources. These reports are viewed as deliberate assaults motivated by particular financial interests, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional image and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, part of Castillo’s legal counsel, remarked: “These claims lack any foundation and are designed to hinder the progression of a young lawyer and her associate, solely for the benefit of hidden financial motives.”
Odila Castillo’s Defense
The defense highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news organization inaccurately reported an purported arrest of the attorney linked to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, making it clear that it had no connection to the current issues being addressed.
During the press briefing, the defense contended that both the latest accusations and those from 2021 are based on half-truths intended to jeopardize her professional endeavors.
Furthermore, they contended that the information circulated about Odila Castillo in the media violates the principles of confidentiality. They clarified that part of the investigation stemmed from a previously concluded family matter, while another aspect involves migratory movements and tax declarations, among other data obtained unlawfully.
Unauthorized Monitoring of Odila Castillo
The defense further claimed that Castillo has been a victim of GPS tracking, representing a type of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to determine accountability for the harm caused and any further harm that may be intended.”
